Superior community leaders held an event Friday night to honor and thank the public servants who worked together during the Husky Energy fire and subsequent evacuations last week.

During a one-hour program at Wessman Arena on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus, the community recognized the Husky Emergency Response Team, Red Cross employees, city of Superior bus drivers, school teachers and assistants, police officers and firefighters for their service, sacrifice and commitment to the city of Superior and its residents in a time of need.

Program speakers included Mayor Jim Paine, Fire Chief Steve Panger, Police Chief Nicholas Alexander and Superior School District superintendent Janna Stevens. The public was given time after the program to personally thank those being honored.
