Superior evens all-time bowling series with Duluth

When the best women bowlers in the Twin Ports met on Sunday at Village Lanes for the 22nd All Star Challenge, Duluth led 12 matches to 11. But when the last ball was thrown, Superior regained the title and evened the matches 12-12.

When the best women bowlers in the Twin Ports met on Sunday at Village Lanes for the 22nd All Star Challenge, Duluth led 12 matches to 11. But when the last ball was thrown, Superior regained the title and evened the matches 12-12.
The All-Star Challenge had an enthusiastic crowd cheering on the Superior bowlers; Vicky Schold, Michelle Nelson, Cathy Meysman, Sarah Johnson-Williams, Barb Hoag and alternate Carolyn Kucharyski.
There was also a large group of followers who supported the Duluth team consisting of: Nicole Young-Mattson, Tanya Levy, Colleen Hasforth, Kitty Harvey, Diane Levy and alternate Tracy Albrecht.
Superior started off strong in the first game, winning 1,000 pins to 883. Four Superior bowlers had games over 200. One Duluth bowler also fired a 200 game.
Superior won the second game 927-898 despite Duluth veteran Colleen Hasforth's 264 game, which was the high game of the day. Hasforth started with a strike, opened and then finished with 10 consecutive strikes.
Superior's high game of the day was also during the second game, when Barb Hoag shot 240, starting with the first six strikes.
After two games, Superior still led 1,927 pins to 1,781, increasing its lead to 146 pins.
The Duluth team never gave up, and fired a 955 total in game three, led by Diane Levy's 253, Harvey's 221 and Hasforth's 204. In game three, which Duluth won 955-893, Meysman led Superior with a 203 game.
It wasn't enough, though, as Superior finished with a three-game scratch total of 2,820 to Duluth's 2,736.
Duluth's Hasforth had the high series of the day with a 637, but consistent bowling on the Superior team gave them the victory.
