The Superior Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will hold a meeting Thursday to give an overview of recent crime issues, including scams, online safety and illegal drug use.
“There’s new information every year,” Superior Community Policing Officer Bonnie Beste said. “We’re bringing in different speakers, different information every year.”
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Superior Public Library and is open to the public.
At Thursday’s event:
- The Lake Superior Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will let residents know what’s been happening in the area and provide information on what to watch for to keep yourself and your kids safe online.
- Members of the Northwest Area Crime Unit Task Force will address drug issues in the community. Heroin and meth are the main drugs that law enforcement officers are seeing in Douglas County, along with marijuana and some cocaine. The meeting will serve as a springboard for an April town hall event focusing on heroin.
There also will be discussion Thursday about crime statistics and scams that have been spotted in the area.
