The Superior boys golf team returns to the Wisconsin state golf meet today for the first time since 2000.
The Spartans are led by seniors Joel Pettingill, Mitch Kontny and Andy Heytens, junior Rob Kraft and freshman Spencer Sitek. The Wisconsin Division 1 state boys golf meet is scheduled for today and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison.
"I kind of put this goal out there a couple years ago, and we finally achieved it my last year. It feels pretty good," Heytens said. "Last year we were three shots short, so we knew we could get there."
Northwestern sophomore Gabe Dinkel will be making his second straight appearance in the Division 2 portion of the state golf tourney today. Last year, Northwestern sent its team to state, but this season Dinkel was the team's lone qualifier.
