Bethany Owen has been selected to be president of Superior Water, Light and Power Company. Owen is the first female president and the 11th person to lead SWL&P in its 121-year history.

Owen joined Allete, SWL&P's parent company, in July 2002 as a lawyer. In 2004, she was promoted to senior attorney. In 2009, she was named director of Transmission Regulatory Compliance and Business Support for Minnesota Power, an operating division of Allete.

Owen said her first priority as president will be to meet with each employee at SWL&P and to work closely with Chris Fleege, the former SWL&P and current Minnesota Power vice president of transmission and distribution, to ensure a seamless transition.

SWL&P provides service to 14,000 electric customers, 12,000 natural gas customers and 10,000 water customers in and near Superior.
