The Superior Athletic Hall of Fame recently commemorated the 50th anniversary of Superior's most successful Little League team.

In summer 1959, 14 11- and 12-year-old elementary school students from Superior were selected to be the Superior American League All-Star team.

The team won the four-game Bessemer (Mich.) District Tournament and the two-game Wausau (Wis.) state tournament to win the Little League state championship. It was the first and only state Little League title won by a Superior team.

They lost in St. Joseph, Mo., by a score of 5-3, just one game from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The squad was part of this year's Superior Athletic Hall of Fame class.
