Summer 2012 may have been the warmest in our recorded history, but that didn't do much extra for our growing season. The first frost often is Sept. 10 here, and many of us got hit on the 18th. Many folks were pretty chilly again last night and this morning. The chill comes from an Arctic high that may stick around for the entire week.

The initial cold wave will moderate somewhat by mid-week, and lows in the 40s will return along with highs in the lower 60s.

September's rain total still is about 2 inches short. Some may say the growing season is wrapping up and it's not as critical to catch up. That's true to a point, but we can still stand to bank a little soil moisture and plump up the lakes a little. Just don't expect that to happen this week.
