Sunday's weather for Duluth and the Northland: Sun, warmth for most towns today

Low pressure systems are like electricity. They like the path of least resistance. Highs create resistance to their path. Today, a small high should make most lows go around our region, but there is a slight chance a weak one may strike up north.

Low pressure systems are like electricity. They like the path of least resistance. Highs create resistance to their path. Today, a small high should make most lows go around our region, but there is a slight chance a weak one may strike up north.

Today's sky should be clear to mostly sunny. The exception will be near International Falls, where a 20 percent chance for showers or isolated thunderstorms may pay off. The high temperature range will be from 80 to 85 by Lake Superior. The inland areas will go from 85 to 90. Southerly winds from 5-10 mph will help supply that heat. The dew point will go between 65 and 70, so it will feel pretty humid.

The high will keep us mostly dry through Monday and Tuesday. Highs during that period will stay in the 80s. By mid-week, a slightly cooler northern air mass will push the polar jet stream into our area. Our highs should retreat to the mid-70s, and the jet will allow lows to advance. Rain chances from Wednesday to Friday will be beneficial to the Northland. Despite June's rain surplus, July is starting to push us back into drought-like conditions.
