Summer Olympians from the Northland

Entering the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, at least four athletes from the Northland had competed in previous Summer Games, according to News Tribune research. More may have competed other than those listed below.

* Garry Bjorklund, Twig, competed in the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal, Quebec, and placed 13th in the men's 10,000-meter track final.

* Dave Krmpotich, Duluth, competed in the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, Korea, and earned a silver medal in the four-man rowing event.

* Anne Govednik Van Steinburg, Chisholm, competed in the 1932 Summer Games in Los Angeles and in 1936 in Berlin, Germany, in swimming.

* Lori Ogren, Port Wing, competed in the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, Spain, in team handball.
