A Sturgeon Lake man died Monday of internal injuries he received in a car accident the night before -- injuries he apparently was unaware of.
Carlton County sheriff's deputies were called to the residence of David John Otis Christy at 5:10 a.m. Monday and found him dead.
Christy, 30, had driven his 2007 Chevrolet Impala off the road and hit a tree on the 4700 block of Split Rock Road in Silver Township, west of Kettle River.
The accident was not reported, but Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake said it is believed the accident happened between 10 and 10:30 p.m., but could have happened earlier.
A passerby found Christy in the ditch and phoned the victim's father, who came and took him home because it was believed no serious injuries were sustained.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident, the sheriff's office reported. Lake said it's believed that the victim was wearing a seatbelt.
According to his obituary, Christy was involved in an ATV accident in 2001 that left him paralyzed.
