A 12-year-old Sturgeon Lake boy was fatally injured Sunday afternoon in an ATV accident near that town.
According to the Pine County Sheriff's Office, the boy was driving a side-by-side ATV pulling a horse trailer on his family's farm when the trailer overturned, causing the ATV to jackknife and tip over. The boy was transported to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, where he died of his injuries.
The boy was alone on the ATV when the accident occurred. According to Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole, the boy's father never allowed the boy to operate the ATV by himself, but for some reason Sunday he jumped on it to move the trailer while the rest of the family was working on the farm.
The accident was reported at a Big Slough Drive address about 4:40 p.m.
