I am what you might call a voracious reader. I've been known to finish a book in a day. And I try to read a book (or two) a week.
Alas, my budget doesn't allow me to buy nearly as many books as I'd like. This is where the Duluth Public Library comes in.
The library has thousands of books just waiting to be read. I love to wander the stacks to find that diamond in the rough. And when I've grabbed a clunker, I have no buyer's remorse; I just bring the book back.
No time to wander the stacks? Just sign up to receive monthly lists of the library's newest additions in your favorite genre by e-mail. Or join one of the online book clubs.
Know which book you want, but it's not available? Place a request and a library staff member will contact you when it is in.

And if the book you want isn't owned by the Duluth Public Library, you can search the Minnesota Library Information Network (MnLINK) and request it via interlibrary loan.
My daughter likes to go to the library, too.
We hardly ever manage to make it to storytime, but the train table and child-sized kitchen always are a big hit. And the low bins full of picture books are just the right level for wee ones (and their parents) to browse.
Other things you can do at the library: surf the Web, read the paper, look at county plat maps or scan microfiche, to name just a few.
Going on a trip? The library has books on tape and books on CD. It also has music CDs available to check out.
Did you miss that movie in theater or are in the mood for an old favorite? Peruse the shelves for a video or DVD to check out.
Can't make it downtown? Not to worry. The Mount Royal and West Duluth branches offer the same services, on a slightly smaller scale. And they have free parking.
The best thing about this stuff? It's all free.
