A strong "nor'easter" is forecast to affect the Northland on Thursday, with wind gusts of more than 50 mph and heavy rain possible.
The National Weather Service reports that a storm, moving out of the central Rockies, will move across the Midwest on Thursday and Friday. The storm will create strong northeast winds off Lake Superior, leading to high waves and driving rain.
A high wind watch is in effect through Thursday evening for areas along the shore of Lake Superior, including the Twin Ports. Sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts in excess of 50 mph, are possible with the storm. Waves on Lake Superior may reach 10 to 12 feet on Thursday.
In addition, 2 to 4 inches of rain - with locally higher amounts - is possible across much of the Northland through Friday.
