As early as today, 320 University of Minnesota Duluth employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3801 -- clerical, health-care and technical workers -- could be on strike.
AFSCME and University of Minnesota negotiators came together late Tuesday in the Twin Cities, though by 10:15 p.m., Local 3801 President Denise Osterholm still hadn't heard anything about how the negotiations were proceeding.
"The last I heard, we gave a 'what if' proposal to the university, and I haven't heard if they gave one back to us," Osterholm said. She was waiting to hear back from AFSCME negotiators.
"The plan is, even if we're still in meetings, the strike will happen at 7 o'clock [a.m.]," Osterholm said.
UMD Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin said temporary workers might be hired if there is a strike.
