Freshman Taylor Steadman scored at the 12:26 mark of the second period Saturday, and that was all Elmira (N.Y.) College needed to claim its third NCAA Division III women's hockey national title with a 1-0 win over Middlebury (Vt.) College at Wessman Arena in Superior.
Lauren Sullivan made 30 saves in goal for the Soaring Eagles (24-5-1), who won their first title since 2003. Annabelle Jones had 25 saves for Middlebury (20-8-2), which had a 13-6 edge in shots on goal in the final period.

Goaltender Sydney Aveson closed her season by stopping all 25 shots as the top-ranked Cardinals beat the Gusties in the NCAA Division III third-place game at Wessman Arena.
Teal Gove scored her 28th and 29th goals of the season and Allison Era and Jenny Kistner each added goals for Plattsburgh State (27-1-2).

St. Peter, Minn.-based Gustavus Adolphus, which owned a 25-11 shots-on-goal advantage, finished the season 27-2-1.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire 5, Oswego State 3
Brandon Stephenson made 27 saves and the Blugolds (24-5) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to claim their first NCAA Division III title in Lake Placid, N.Y.
UW-Eau Claire knotted the game at 2-2 by the end of the first, and scored the only goal of the second period to take the lead for good over Oswego State (25-5).
