State Rep. Dave Dill of Crane Lake is scheduled to receive a donated kidney on Tuesday morning at a Minneapolis hospital.

Dill, 55, a DFLer running for his fifth consecutive term in the House, said he is receiving a kidney from a live donor.

Dill has battled diabetes and kidney problems for many years. He underwent gastric bypass surgery two years ago and lost more than 150 pounds, resolving his diabetes issues. But the previous damage to his kidneys was not repairable, and his kidney function has slowly deteriorated to the level that a transplant was necessary.

Dill said he will be in the hospital about five days with a one-month recovery period, but said he hopes to resume a limited legislative workload within a couple of weeks. He faces a challenge in the Nov. 2 general election from Republican Jim Tuomala of Babbitt.
