ST. PAUL -- Alex Toscano's goal 2:40 into the game and another standout defensive performance has Duluth East leading Edina 1-0 after one period of the teams' Minnesota Class AA high school boys hockey state tournament semifinal tonight at Xcel Energy Center.
Toscano, a senior winger, ripped a wrist shot to the right edge for the only goal of the period.
A 1-0 lead held up in the quarterfinals as East limited Moorhead to 12 shots on goal. Edina had only four in the 17-minute period to start tonight's game.
The winner advances to play either top-ranked Hill-Murray or Wayzata in Saturday's 7 p.m. final.
