Budgeteer columnist Linda LeGarde Grover gave a short presentation about the history of Native Americans in St. Louis County to the St. Louis County Commissioners board meeting on Tues., Feb. 5.

The presentation was the kickoff of an initiative the St. Louis County Commissioners began for 2013 that will highlight the County's history at each Board meeting.

Grover projected historical photos of boarding schools and talked about the reasoning behind the boarding schools and the effects the boarding schools had on Native children and families.

Grover is a member of the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe and a professor of American Indian Studies at UMD. Her research includes the study of the effects of American Indian boarding school education and federal Indian education policies upon Native individuals, tribes and communities.
