The ballot recount in a close St. Louis County attorney's race will take place in two weeks.

County Auditor Don Dicklich said the recount will start at 8 a.m. Nov. 30 in the County Board Room.

Candidate Melanie Ford requested the new tally after falling 53 votes short in her challenge of incumbent Alan Mitchell.

The recount is the county's first in 28 years. State law allows for the recount if the margin of victory is less than 0.5 percent of the total votes cast. Mitchell beat Ford by 0.07 percent, according to results certified Monday.

The race was marked by erroneous results. Mitchell originally conceded defeat, but it was found he was shorted 500 votes. The recount is expected to take up to four days.

The recount is open to the public, Dicklich said. The County Board Room is on the courthouse's second floor, 100 N. Fifth Ave. W.
