It won't come as any surprise, seeing as we had flowers blooming in March and lakes ice-free in early April, but spring 2010 was the warmest recorded in Duluth.

The National Weather Service in Duluth reports that meteorological spring -- March, April, May -- averaged 45.6 degrees, besting the old record of 44.4 degrees set in 1977. All three months had well-above-average temperatures, with March a whopping 11.6 degrees above normal in Duluth.

International Falls tied with 1987 for its second-warmest meteorological spring on record, with an average temperature of 44.4 degrees. It fell short by 0.1 degrees from the warmest spring, which was recorded in 1977.
