Good afternoon, here's your severe weather update for Thursday afternoon, June 5th:
The Northland is expecting some severe weather late this afternoon and evening as an intense low pressure system wraps up on the lee side of the Rocky Mountains. Copious amounts of heat and humidity are bubbling northward along a warm front, which will be sitting near the Minnesota-Iowa-South Dakota-Nebraska border today. This front will be the focal point for nasty storms, which will be producing up to 3 inch hail, gusty winds up to 80mph and isolated, large, destructive tornadoes. This whole mess will lift northward through late afternoon and evening hours, bringing us the left-overs, which will likely be less severe at that point. However, Northlanders are under a slight risk of severe weather, which means that there is the potential for watches and or warnings later. Keep in mind that as these storms travel northward, they will get away from the best instability parameters and become mostly hail, strong wind and heavy rain producing storms! Some folks in northern Minnesota could see as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain by tomorrow. Keep those weather radios handy and tune into Fox 21 Television for the latest severe weather updates if anything should develop.
