Cheers and cowbells helped inliner achieve personal best time

On Sept. 13, I competed in my second NorthShore Inline Marathon. The fans along the race course were absolutely fantastic.

I was pushing myself to beat my race time from two years ago, and it seemed that every time I needed a little boost of energy to keep me going, that there was a group of fans standing alongside the course, clanging their cowbells, applauding and cheering loudly. Every time I passed one of these groups I found a little bit more energy and was able to push myself a little bit harder.

At the end of it all, I finished the race with a time of 1 hour, 46 minutes, 1 second. This was nearly 15 minutes faster than my race results from two years ago. I was hoping to improve upon my results by about five minutes. I never expected such a great result. And I owe a good deal of that to the great residents of Duluth.

Thank you, Duluth, for making my race a truly great experience. I look forward to your cheers and cowbells next year.
