Snowmobilers held in Proctor break-in, assault

Three snowmobilers from the St. Cloud area are being held in the St. Louis County Jail pending the filing of formal charges after breaking into a residence and assaulting the occupants early Saturday, Proctor police said.

Three snowmobilers from the St. Cloud area are being held in the St. Louis County Jail pending the filing of formal charges after breaking into a residence and assaulting the occupants early Saturday, Proctor police said.

Police said there had been an altercation between some local residents and out-of-town snowmobilers earlier in the evening in the parking lot of the Tailgate Bar and Grill, 501 Third Ave., in Proctor. About 2:30 a.m., the snowmobilers followed the locals to a residence where the assault took place.

A 26-year-old St. Cloud man, a 31-year-old St. Cloud man and a 30-year-old Cold Springs man are being held on preliminary charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and damage to property. The Cold Springs man is also facing a fleeing police in a snowmobile charge.
