An early winter snowstorm was expected to drop several inches of snow on parts of southern and central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin by Tuesday night -- but mostly miss northern Minnesota.
The National Weather Service has posted winter weather advisories for all of northern Wisconsin, including Douglas County, where up to 2 inches is expected. Up to 5 inches is expected in north-central Wisconsin with up to 6 inches south and west of the Twin Cities.
Winter weather advisories also are posted from southwestern Minnesota, through the Twin Cities, up through Hayward and Ironwood.
No snow is forecast for the Iron Range, and 1 inch or less is expected in Duluth and the North Shore.
Forecasters this evening were unsure of the exact track of the storm, however; and the snow/no-snow line is expected to be abrupt with colder, drier air to the north and west and warmer, wetter air to the south and east. Only where cold and wet air meet will it snow much.
