Snow, heavy at times, will continue across much of the Northland this afternoon and evening. It is creating difficult travel, with numerous crashes and spinouts reported across the region.

A light glazing of freezing rain fell early this morning in many areas, including parts of Duluth, before precipitation changed over to snow.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect for most of the Northland. Additional snowfall of 2 to 5 inches, on top of what had fallen through mid-afternoon, is possible across Northeastern Minnesota, the National Weather Service reported. Lesser snowfall is expected in Northwestern Wisconsin, where the precipitation may mix with rain.

Parts of Itasca County reported snowfall of more than a half-foot this morning. Other snowfall reports through 4:30 p.m. included 3 inches at Cloquet, 2.3 inches at International Falls and about 2 inches at the Duluth airport.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports difficult driving conditions this afternoon in parts of the Northland, including Interstate 35 from Duluth to Pine City.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports some slippery stretches on highways in Northwestern Wisconsin, but generally good winter driving conditions.

Duluth, North Shore, Iron Range, Ely

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday. Snow, heavy at times, will continue this evening. Additional snowfall of 2 to 5 inches is possible on top of what already had fallen through mid-afternoon. Locally higher amounts are possible across the Iron Range and Arrowhead. Some light freezing rain may mix in with the snow.

Superior, Hinckley, Washburn

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday. Additional snowfall of 1 to 4 inches is possible on top of what already had fallen through mid-afternoon. Rain may mix in with the snow this evening before the precipitation changes to all snow.

Grand Rapids, Bigfork, International Falls, Aitkin

A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight. Snow, heavy at times, will continue this evening. Additional snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible on top of what already had fallen through mid-afternoon.
