Several inches of snow are expected to fall south of the Twin Ports on Friday, followed by a weekend with temperatures about 15 degrees below normal.
The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting 2 to 6 inches of snow to fall Friday in parts of Minnesota, along a line from Fergus Falls to St. Cloud to Hinckley and then into central Wisconsin. A winter weather advisory is issued for those areas through Friday night.
Only an inch or two is forecast for the Twin Ports on Friday, with little or no snow in the Arrowhead or far northern Wisconsin.
Forecast highs for the next seven days are only in the teens in the north and 20s from the Twin Ports south, about 15 degrees below normal, with no 40-degree highs anywhere in the forecast.
What a difference a year makes. One year ago this week highs hit the 60s and 70s in Duluth, peaking at 75 degrees on St. Patrick's Day.

One year ago there was no snow on the ground as of this date. This year, there's officially 21 inches on the ground at Duluth International Airport with more on the way.
Another round of snow is expected to hit Minnesota on Monday. Although the exact track is still uncertain, forecasters say much of the Northland could see 6 inches of snow or more.
