Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 13th Annual Bayfront Blues Festival at Bayfront Park this weekend.
The blues will wail off two new stages all weekend long in the completely refurbished park on the shores of Lake Superior.
In all, 23 local, regional and national performers will keep the blues coming from just before noon on Friday, Aug. 10, through 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12.
And get this lineup -- the uppity women of Saffire, zydeco great Terrance Simien, Grammy award winners Taj Mahal and John Hammond, slide guitar master John Mooney, former BB. King band leader Calvin Owens and his Blues Orchestra, the boogie woogie piano of Marcia Ball, W.C. Handy blues award winners Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers and and rock 'n' roll pioneer Ike Turner are just a few of the acts on the schedule this year.
Twin Cities favorites like Lamont Cranston, Big Walter Smith and the Groove Merchants, and Mick Sterling will play. Locally, the Black-Eyed Snakes and Azure du Jour will lead off the events on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the festival itself, official after-hour events include the Moonlight Blues Cruise, which leaves port post-fest and sails for 1 1/2 hours of live rockin' tunes on the cool blue waters of Lake Superior.
And an after fest block party at The Saloon in Superior each night will keep you movin' until 2 a.m. In addition, nearly 20 local nightclubs feature live blues all three nights.
Everybody gets a great seat at the new Bayfront Festival Park, so bring a chair and plan to spend a weekend with the blues.
Ticket packages are still available. For information, call 394-6831 or log on to http://www.bayfrontblues.com .
