A student was struck and slightly injured by a car outside the high school in Silver Bay Monday afternoon, the Silver Bay Police Department reported today.
Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a student at 3:30 p.m. The student was sent to a Duluth hospital but is "doing well," Lake Superior School District Superintendent Bill Crandall said. He expects the student to be sent home from the hospital today.
Police declined to release any more information about the accident or the driver of the vehicle.
Crandall said the student was trying to cross Outer Drive in a crosswalk between William Kelley High School and Rukavina Arena. Crandall said the crosswalk, along with one on County Road 2 next to Two Harbors High School, is scheduled to receive flashing signs warning drivers of people walking on the roadways. He expects the signs to go up in 2015.
Crandall called accidents like the one Monday a "rarity."
