National Weather Service meteorologists continue to monitor the potential for a snowstorm to affect the Northland from Sunday into Monday.

"Chances for a significant winter storm across parts or all of the Northland Sunday night into Monday night are increasing," the Weather Service reported Friday afternoon. "While exact details on the path of the storm which will influence the timing, precipitation type and snowfall amounts are still uncertain, most model guidance suggests a significant storm affecting much of the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes region during this time period. There appears to be increasing potential for heavy snow or ... mixed precipitation somewhere over the Northland."

Ahead of the storm, a warm-up is in store for the Northland this weekend. Temperatures in the Twin Ports are forecast to climb to near 40 on Saturday, and well into the 40s on Sunday under partly sunny skies.
