The proverbial frost on the pumpkin of recent fall mornings was replaced this past week with the first signs of the pending freeze. Although short-lived in many areas, the region's first white dusting remained long enough to change the look of the landscape for a while and created several thumbnails of winter beauty, including these flowering crab apples in Chester Park. Their variety, known as Red Splendor, seems an appropriate title to their snow-capped look.
