A man who had barricaded himself in an outbuilding fired on deputies Saturday after they responded to a domestic disturbance call at Barnum.
The Carlton County Sheriff's Office received the call about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release. It was reported that there was a domestic disturbance and a man had fired a rifle in the yard of a home at 3060 County Road 104.
When deputies arrived they removed people from the home and learned that the suspect was barricaded in an outbuilding on the same property. While they were trying to communicate with him, the man "randomly fired the high-caliber weapon in the direction of officers on scene," the news release said. No one was injured.
The man, a 41-year-old from rural Blackhoof Township, later was apprehended and transported first to a hospital for evaluation and then to the Carlton County Jail, where he is being held pending charges.
Other agencies including the Cloquet Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Consolidated Emergency Response Team helped in the incident.
