More serious charges have been filed against a St. Paul man accused of shooting a Marine Corps veteran in an East Hillside residence in July.

An amended complaint filed in St. Louis County District Court charges Daniel J. Kriesel with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree aggravated robbery, first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Kriesel, 35, had previously been charged with first-degree assault and the firearm crime in an earlier complaint filed in connection with the July 13 shooting of 30-year-old David Goward Jr.

Goward suffered a gunshot wound with a bullet passing through his heart, lungs, kidney and intestine, according to the criminal complaint. He survived after initially being listed in critical condition.

The defendant is being held in the St. Louis County Jail. His next court appearance hasn't been scheduled.
