The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for a large part of the Northland, including Duluth, Superior, Cloquet, Grand Rapids and the Iron Range, until 9:15 p.m. as strong storms with a history of producing damaging wind and large hail move across the area.
The storms are capable of producing winds in excess of 80 mph and quarter-size hail. They have downed large trees and caused damage in parts of Itasca County, and farther west in the Bemidji area.
If they hold together, they should arrive in the Twin Ports after 9 p.m.
