The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Carlton and northern Pine counties until 10 p.m.
At 9:06 p.m., radar indicated a severe storm capable of producing nickel-size hail and winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located 7 miles west of Kettle River, moving east at 50 mph.
The storm will be near Willow River by 9:15 p.m., Moose Lake and Barnum by 9:20 p.m., Mahtowa by 9:25 p.m., Nickerson by 9:30 p.m. and Holyoke by 9:40 p.m.
In addition, a special marine warning is in effect for the waters of western Lake Superior until 10 p.m.
