Severe thunderstorms are affecting much of Northland this morning.

A tornado watch is in effect for Duluth and Northwestern Wisconsin until 4 p.m.; the threat of severe weather is forecast to continue for most of the region into the afternoon and evening hours as a cold front sweeps across the region.

The main risk from any severe storms the develop are large hail, damaging winds and possibly tornadoes. The National Weather Service reports that the greatest risk for tornadoes will be during the afternoon and early evening across east-central Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.

Storms moving through the Red River Valley earlier this morning caused wind damage - downed trees and power lines - in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
