Some local schools posted high scores on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment II test based on results released by the state last week.
Scores measure how well schools are meeting requirements outlined under No Child Left Behind.
Despite the increased rigor of the new test, six schools, including Lester Park, Congdon Park, Piedmont, Lakewood, East and Ordean scored in the top 10 percent for reading scores for at least one grade level tested, according to LeAnn Brown, assessment coordinator in the curriculum department for the Duluth school district.
Congdon Park ranked second across the state for fifth-grade reading and Lester Park ranked eighth.
Homecroft, Nettleton, Central and Harbor City International were in the top 25 percent for reading.

"The MCA-II is just one test on one day," said Rex Hein, director of curriculum, assessment and staff development. "However, it's good to see our schools doing so well compared to others across the state."
Chris Hazleton, director of schools for Harbor City International, agreed.
"We are excited about the impact our curriculum and specifically our school size is having on the students we serve," Hazleton said, adding the scores were particularly impressive when considering the high percentage of special education students and students receiving free and reduced lunch that attend Harbor City International.
Lester Park, Lakewood, Congdon and East also scored in the top 10 percent for math scores posted by various grade levels.
Central and Ordean were in the top 25 percent.
