Seven more people, in addition to seven charged Thursday, were formally charged Friday in the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force "Operation Brownstone," which targeted traffickers of heroin and other drugs in the Twin Ports.
The operation was planned for about six months as authorities saw an increase in heroin trafficking and overdoses of the drug in the Twin Ports.
Those charged in State District Court in Duluth on Friday were:
Demetrius Bowen, 21, of Duluth, third-degree sale of a controlled substance; Leroy Calvin, 28, of Superior, third-degree sale of a controlled substance; Thomas Garza Jr., 25, of Duluth, third-degree sale of a controlled substance, fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance; Edwin Johnson, 27, of Duluth, two counts third-degree sale of a controlled substance; Shannon Lee, 37, of Duluth, first-degree sale of methamphetamine; Ametrius Robinson, 20, of Duluth, second-degree sale of a controlled substance; Joanne Smith, 38, of Duluth, third-degree sale of heroin.
