U.S. Highway 2 was blocked or partially blocked for nearly five hours near Maple on Monday after a semitrailer overturned in a crash with another vehicle, spilling wood chips across the highway.
The incident was reported around 3:15 p.m. at Bayfield Road, near the Maple Community Center. All lanes of traffic were blocked while crews worked to clean up the scene. Passenger vehicles were being rerouted through a gravel road detour, but oncoming tractor-trailers were being forced to wait along the side of Highway 2.
The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the accident.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported that just before 8 p.m. all lanes were open.
There was no immediate word on the cause or the crash or any injuries.
