A 20-year-old Wright man suffered minor injuries after his semi left the road and crashed into trees along on U.S. Highway 53 near International Falls on Monday.

The driver, Tristan Trey Johnson, told the Minnesota State Patrol he fell asleep while he was heading north on Highway 53 at Koochiching County Road 24. The 2004 Volvo semi crossed into the opposing lanes before rolling into the west-side ditch and striking several trees, the Patrol reported.

Johnson was wearing his seatbelt and airbags deployed. He was transported to a Duluth hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Brad Koivisto, owner of the trucking company. Johnson was treated and released.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at 5:45 a.m. Road conditions were listed as wet at the time of the crash.
