Another Duluth liquor store had an attempted break-in Sunday morning.

Georges' Liquor, 1340 W. Arrowhead Road in the Kenwood Shopping Plaza, had a front window pane broken. Owner Tom George is joining the Stokke's Liquor Lakeside owner in offering an additional $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the individuals responsible.

"We got broken into last year and it was the exact same spot in the exact same way, so I'm guessing it's the same people," George told the News Tribune. "I have some interest in catching these people now. You want to feel safe and protected in your business, as does every other business in the mall. So we'd like to see them stopped."

This is the second report of a liquor store break-in this week. Three people were caught on camera breaking a glass pane in the sliding door of Stokke's Liquor Lakeside at approximately 1:18 a.m. Sunday. The masked people reached in to steal one case of Crown Royal Whiskey and two cases of 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, approximately $640 in value.

George estimated the damage done to his liquor store window will cost about $1,800 to replace, based on last year's break-in. The vandals didn't steal any merchandise from George's store.

"And they got amazingly lucky in one regard: They picked probably the only six hours this year when we didn't have a security camera up outside," George said. "The outside camera wasn't working, so we took it to get it exchanged with the intention of putting it in that Saturday after work, at 10 p.m., but we decided to do it the next day."

George installed the cameras following the store's 2019 break-in and said they're operational.

Anyone with information on the Stokke's or Georges' break-ins is asked to call the Duluth Police Department at 218-730-5400.
