Saints get practice runs

Tailback Tyler Hassel, a former Grand Rapids prep player, runs the ball during game action at the first St. Scholastica intra-squad scrimmage at Saints Field on the CSS campus Saturday afternoon.

The first-year football program begins play at 1 p.m. Sept. 20 against Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee. They open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at Minnesota-Morris. The home opener is the Saints' homecoming game at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4 against Crown at Malosky Stadium on the Minnesota Duluth campus.

First-year coach Greg Carlson has spent a year and a half creating the team. He most recently coached at Whittier (Calif.) College after he spent 18 years as head coach at Wabash College in Indiana compiling a 112-57-2 record.
