Two teams race around a flat, oval track for 60 minutes, split into two-minute "jams."

Each team has four blockers and one jammer.

The eight blockers skate together as a loose pack, while the jammers speed around the track, scoring points for each member of the opposite team that they pass.

Blockers play both offense (helping their jammer through the pack) and defense (preventing the opposing team's jammer from passing through).
