The Hollywood gossip machine set its sights on the Northland on Thursday, amid reports that Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their kids stopped at the International Falls airport just a day before the couple separated.

Pitt, Jolie and their family flew into a Minnesota airport on Sept. 14 - and gossip website TMZ, citing unnamed sources, reported that the stop came after Pitt became verbally and physically abusive to his children while on the private flight from France to the U.S.

According to TMZ, witnesses said Pitt was out of control on the tarmac in Minnesota and tried to leave in a fuel truck.

The website does not say specifically where the incident occurred - but officials in Koochiching County confirmed that Pitt was on a plane that landed at Falls International Airport that day.

"We've been fielding calls on this all day," Koochiching County Sheriff Perryn Hedlund said Thursday via email. "While he did land at our airport, there were no reported incidents to law enforcement."

The airport can be used as a refueling stop for flights between Europe and the western U.S.

TMZ said the report of possible verbal and physical abuse of children was referred to the FBI, and that the incident triggered Jolie to file for divorce.

Jolie filed for divorce Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences, court documents show. Jolie is seeking full physical custody of their six children, ages 8 to 15, with visitation rights for Pitt, but is not seeking spousal support. Jolie cited a separation date of Sept. 15 - the day after the stop at the International Falls airport.

Jolie and Pitt, known collectively as "Brangelina," were one of the entertainment world's most visible couples, due to their good looks, successful films and activism. They married in 2014 after a decade together.
