The lawsuit against the Duluth school district could be dismissed if community members don't open their wallets to support it.
The plaintiffs that brought the case against the district -- four of whom are members of Let Duluth Vote -- were recently required by the 6th District Court to come up with a $100,000 surety bond by the end of June or the case will be dropped.
So far, the group has raised $33,000, which leaves it about 70 percent short with seven days left in the month, according to a news release from Let Duluth Vote.
The bulk of the $33,000 was raised in the past three days, the release said.
Depending on how the court rules on another pending motion made by the plaintiffs, the fundraising goal could climb even higher down the road.

The motion asks the court to grant an injunction that would essentially halt any construction on the district's red plan that is not already under way.
The district claims the move could cost taxpayers between $10 million and $20 million in delayed construction costs and has asked the court to issue another security bond to cover the potential increased costs.
It is unknown when the court will rule on that motion.
