The Lincoln Park neighborhood is getting a little tastier on Thursday evenings.

Seeds of Success is partnering with the Duluth Community Garden Program to do recipe tastings 4-7 p.m. every Thursday at the Lincoln Park Farmer's Market.

"Every week we'll pick a different vegetable to focus on and have some dishes that feature that veggie for everyone to taste," said Seeds of Success organizer Rheanna Letsos.

The recipes come from adapted recipes found online, community garden members, Facebook and the Duluth Community Garden website.

On Sept. 11, Kevin Hard of Gnarfoodz will cook up a dish featuring the One Vegetable One Community "Vegetable of the Year" - beans.

"We have fresh green beans available for sale in the farmer's market, so we'll definitely have a recipe with those," Letsos said.

Letsos said the tastings are very important for those who are learning to cook and might not know how to cook vegetables from the market.

"It really helps people see the produce, see where it comes from, then see the produce cooked and can taste it right there. It makes the connection. Then they can get the recipe, buy the vegetables there and go home and cook it. It's nice and easy," Letsos said.

The first tasting was held Aug. 28 and the dish was roasted beets. Letsos said the response from children was surprising.

"Normally it's hard to get kids to eat vegetables. But these kids in the park kept coming around and they were so excited. They couldn't get enough of the beets! It was just oddest thing! You would think we had candy out there!" Letsos said.
