Why could we not pay for health care with a national sales tax?

Consider this: All people would pay! If you were poor, you likely wouldn't buy much, so you would pay very little. If you were rich, you would pay quite a bit, assuming you spend a lot of money. If you were an illegal alien, a drug dealer buying bling and expensive cars, a tourist, a free-loading diplomat, a person who works for cash and does not file an income tax return, a student from another country, etc., etc., you would pay.

Employers would no longer be burdened with providing health insurance plans and could possibly offer much-needed raises rather than having the money eaten by inevitable increases in premiums.

Medicare and Medicaid would be eliminated.

Why is this not a possibility? I have not heard this mentioned anywhere in any of the possible plans. If we have a national health-care plan, all should pay something. This is a sure way of getting money, particularly from the freeloaders.

I guess expecting our politicians to come up with a fair solution would be asking too much.
