As chairwoman of the Dismantling Racism team and as lead pastor at Peace Church, we are writing to express our appreciation of the presence of the Multicultural Center at the University of Minnesota Duluth. We have worked with many people from the Multicultural Center in a variety of ways in the community, and we see the center and the programs housed there as real assets for Duluth.
The motto of the United Church of Christ, of which Peace Church is a member, is "that all may be one." This, however, is not a call to conformity, for we are a multiracial, multicultural church. We feel strongly that our diversity makes us stronger. We feel this is true for the UMD campus, as well as the community as a whole. A greater appreciation for diversity benefits us all.
