Letters concerning the St. Louis County attorney race have been interesting. We've learned that challenger Mark Rubin is an excellent prosecutor in the criminal division. However, because Melanie Ford has been our county attorney, her annual reports have informed us about the work of all the divisions -- criminal, public health and human services, victim/witness and civil.

Her outreach to schools to enforce truancy laws and to teach students about the realities of the criminal justice system are welcomed. She was instrumental in setting up a presentation at Floodwood High School last spring about the tragic consequences of alcohol abuse. The Floodwood/

Meadowlands Citizen Drug Task Force knows they have her full support.

During Ford's tenure, felony criminal cases, new child protection cases and parent termination cases have increased. However, juvenile delinquency cases referred to the office have decreased. Ford has shown the ability to manage an increased workload with a smaller budget.

We will vote to keep her as our county attorney and to keep Rubin doing a good job in the criminal division. She will never be a good ol' boy and brings some sorely needed representation to our county administration.
