Reader's view: Fast-food toy ban discussion a waste of valuable time

Just when you thought you heard it all, Greg Mertzig, a Superior city councilor, proposes banning toys from kids' fast-food meals ("Happy day for Happy Meals: Superior City Council votes down ordinance banning toys in children's fast food meals," Dec. 8).

Was this guy for real? And how much does he get paid to waste valuable work hours? There are so many people who are homeless, starving and suffering from depression from today's economy. Couldn't he have thought of anything better to take on? And if not, why doesn't his employer find someone who can and give him a one-way ticket to the unemployment line?

He said such bans have been done in San Francisco. Maybe he could just move there.

Parents are the ones who let their children eat to obesity, not fast-food companies.

Mertzig should be nothing but embarrassed. I still can't believe I read it in the paper. I let my daughter eat out and get a Happy Meal maybe once a month and not even that often at times. What was this proposal seriously going to address? Or was this the Twilight Zone? What a waste of valuable time. Seriously.
