Seems our hard-working, longtime representative in Congress, James Oberstar, has a credible opponent this year. The news media and Tea Party activists have been praising him as if he were the new messiah.
I hear he has some great ideas for economic recovery. I've learned from reliable sources that, because he is a former Navy man, he wants to build a fleet of galleys to haul cargo throughout the Great Lakes. He would use unemployed workers to build and operate the ships. Minimum wages would prevail. This would help Minnesota's timber industry, also, as the ships would be made of wood. Anyone wanting a job could get one as a galley oarsman. Life expectancy would drop from this type of work so there would be no need for health insurance. Also, Social Security soon would be in the black.
The candidate thinks he can have the federal budget balanced by the end of his first term and have enough surplus to eliminate taxes for anyone making more than $1 million annually. I was hoping he'd go door-to-door to explain more of his recovery plan, but maybe the big Oberstar sign in front of my house scared him away.
